About
Ninth-generation winemaker Dominique Portet founded his Yarra Valley estate in 2000, drawn to the cool-climate beauty of Coldstream and its potential to echo the finesse of Bordeaux. It marked both the fulfilment of a lifelong search and the beginning of a distinctly Australian chapter in a lineage that began in 18th-century France.
Today, his son Ben carries the legacy forward as chief winemaker, balancing tradition with innovation. His focus on estate-grown fruit, small-batch precision and a deep respect for site results in wines that are elegant, expressive and unmistakably Yarra Valley.
Eponymous winery
Set among vineyards in the heart of the Yarra Valley, the Dominique Portet estate is a place where French sensibility meets Australian character. Visitors can explore the cellar door for guided tastings, enjoy relaxed dining in the French-style bistro, or take in the views from the terrace beside the pétanque pitch with a glass of rosé in hand.
At its core is the working winery, where tradition and modern technique shape every vintage. Surrounding it, the Coldstream and Gladysdale vineyards reflect the diversity of the region’s terroir; elevated, cool, and ideal for growing refined, expressive wines. It’s a place of warmth, craft and quiet elegance.
Bistro
The Bistro offers a relaxed French dining experience, unique in the Yarra Valley. Set beside the cellar door, it serves seasonal dishes with classic technique, designed to pair effortlessly with the estate’s wines. It’s refined yet unpretentious, where long lunches, good conversation and great wine come naturally.
