Profile
Perfumed and precise, with dark berries layered with red cherry, violet and savoury nuance. The palate is supple and seamless, carried by fine tannins and effortless length. Seductive now, with the depth to evolve beautifully over time.
Fermentation
Each parcel was handpicked and gently passed through state-of-the-art berry by berry mechanical sorting, ensuring only pristine fruit was selected. Fermented separately in large oak vats, the blend was then aged for fourteen months in tightly grained French oak, with thirty five percent new barrels and lighter toasts chosen for restraint rather than impact. Precision at every stage allowed purity, perfume and texture to emerge naturally.
Vineyards
Réserve de Famille is drawn entirely from our estate vineyards in Coldstream, planted on broken-down sandstone with clay soils that suit Cabernet blends beautifully. Key parcels include WA Cape Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot clones 181 and 8R, selected for their perfume, balance and depth. Together, these vineyards form the quiet backbone of our flagship blend.
Vintage
The 2021 season unfolded slowly and evenly in the Yarra Valley, with cool conditions, no heat spikes and well-timed rainfall through the growing period. Careful yield moderation and a long ripening window delivered fruit of perfume, balance and supple texture, an idyllic season for crafting a refined, age-worthy Cabernet blend.
